Biography

Gioia Chilton, Ph.D., ATR-BC, CSAC, is a registered and board-certified art therapist and researcher with over 25 years of experience.

Chilton has published more than 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Her writing has appeared in “The Oxford Handbook of Qualitative Research” and “The Handbook of Arts-Based Research,” as well as the Journal of Applied Arts and Health, Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health, Cogent Arts & Humanities, and the International Journal of Qualitative Methods. With Rebecca Wilkinson, she is co-author of the textbook “Positive Art Therapy Theory and Practice: Integrating Positive Psychology with Art Therapy.”

She earned a doctoral degree in creative art therapies from Drexel University, a master’s degree in art therapy from The George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sculpture from Bennington College.
