Dana DiGennaro

Biography

Flutist Dana DiGennaro has performed throughout the United States, continually displaying her versatility as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. Her performances have been hailed by the Houston Post as “keenly focused, joyous and energetic” and by the Southampton Gazette as “breathtakingly beautiful.”

In 1994, DiGennaro was named a winner of the New York Debut Auditions Award sponsored by Artists International. As a result, she was presented in her New York solo recital debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in May 1995. She was also a top prize-winner of the National Flute Association’s Young Artist competition and the grand prize winner of the concerto competition at the International Festival Institute at Round Top.

DiGennaro, a native of Southern California, received a master of music from the Mannes School of Music in New York City, where she was a recipient of a full-tuition scholarship awarded by the Damrosch Society. Her teachers have included Judith Mendenhall, Jeanne Baxtresser and Anne Diener Zentner. She performs frequently with Syracuse’s professional orchestra Symphoria and has also played with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic and the Albany Symphony. She is an active freelance musician and has played flute, alto flute and piccolo with the Broadway national touring companies of “Wicked,” “Peter Pan,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Misérables.”
