Biography

Phil McAndrew is an award-winning illustrator, cartoonist and writer. He is the author and illustrator of “Crying in Front of Your Dog and Other Stories” (Uncivilized Books, 2013). He also illustrated the “Caveboy Dave” series of graphic novels written by Aaron Reynolds (Viking Books, 2016 and 2018) and “Monster Science” by Helaine Becker (Kids Can Press, 2016).

McAndrew has contributed comics and humor to The New Yorker, MAD Magazine, Popula, The Nib and many other publications. He has worked as a freelance character designer and concept artist for animated television projects. For a while, he had a pilot for his own television show in development with Cartoon Network. 

McAndrew currently balances his freelance career with teaching part-time in Syracuse University’s illustration program. His classes include Media Arts Techniques I and Intermediate Illustration II.
