Biography

Erica Murphy is an assistant professor of acting in the Department of Drama.

Prior to coming to Syracuse University, Murphy served as a lecturer and adjunct professor of theater at Brandeis University and at the University of Southern Maine.

An actor, educator and movement specialist based in Portland, Maine, Murphy has performed and worked with Portland Stage, Good Theater, Mad Horse Theatre Company, Fenix Theatre Company, Ziggurat Theater, Theater at Monmouth and The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine. She has also performed in world premieres in Chicago and New York City. Recent productions include “Balloonacy” (The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine), “Eurydice” (Fenix Theatre Company), “Ninshaba” (Ziggurat Theater) and “As You Like It” (Theater at Monmouth).

Murphy received a 2022 PortFringe Pulitzer Achievement in Writing, Magna Cum Laude, DIY Greatness for the original work “The Garden” and a 2021 PortFringe Achievement in Cinematography Award for the original work “Selkie.” For both productions she served as writer, director, producer and performer.

Murphy holds a master of mime, movement and theatre from L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris and a B.F.A. in acting from DePaul University. She also studied at Movement Theater Studio in New York City and the Roy Hart International Arts Center. She is a certified intimacy captain through Intimacy Coordinators of Color, a certified Feldenkrais practitioner and a certified actor combatant.
