Pronouns: She, TheyBiography
Working across mediums from photography to sculpture and writing, Madeleine Soich (she/they) uses a variety of materials, including light, “dust” and discarded objects, to explore impermanence as transmutation within simultaneity.
Soich references the body and the constructed world to instill empathy within the viewer in relation to others but also to our surroundings as a reminder that all are empty and pending transformation into something else.
Soich has exhibited in venues such as the PDX Window Project (Oregon), Korpúlfsstaðir Gallerí (Reykjavík, Iceland), LoosenArt (Rome) and in a collaborative project titled “Threadlines” at the Museum of Contemporary Craft (Oregon). Her work has been published by Borderline Press and The Maine Review. Additionally, she was nominated for the Windgate Fellowship and has received numerous awards, including the May Georges Scholarship and a scholarship to Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Soich earned a B.F.A. at Oregon College of Art and Craft.
