VPA New York City

College of Visual and Performing Arts students can experience the incomparable culture of the Big Apple with our programs and immersions.

These programs and immersions include the Tepper Semester in the Department of Drama, the Engaging Careers immersion trip in the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies, and Gilbert Week in the Setnor School of Music.

The Fisher Center

VPA NYC's academic programming is based at Syracuse University's Fisher Center, a state-of-the-art teaching facility that supports the University’s goal of providing every student a chance to study in one of the world’s greatest, most dynamic metropolitan areas. Located in midtown Manhattan at 31st Street and Madison Avenue, the Fisher Center is also home to the University's Newhouse NYC and Syracuse Architecture NYC.

The Fisher Center offers 20,000 square feet of purpose-built space, including several “smart” classrooms, a 66-seat lecture hall, and architecture and drama studios.

Tepper Semester

Named for its founder, drama alumna and Tony Award-winning producer Arielle Tepper ’94, the Tepper Semester is a unique program from the Department of Drama that offers undergraduate students in advanced levels of acting, musical theater, design, and stage management the opportunity to immerse themselves in a rigorous artistic training program in the culturally rich setting of New York City.

Engaging Careers

The Engaging Careers experience helps communication and rhetorical studies (CRS) students explore the numerous career paths available for communicators following graduation. Held annually, students visit such places as Disney Theatrical, NBC News and Conde Nast and enjoy discussions with CRS alumni who represent a wide variety of career disciplines.

Gilbert Week

Gilbert Week is a week-long immersion program for students in the Setnor School of Music. Students learn about career opportunities in music by meeting and learning from arts professionals and visiting some of the world’s leading performing arts institutions and organizations. Gilbert Week is held during Spring Break in a different city each year; past locations include New York City; Los Angeles; and Austin, Texas. The program is generously supported by Dennis ’73 and Nancy Gilbert ’74.
